1. Deep-Sea Species Fishing Being
Monitored
Due to the depletion of mainstay commercial fish the deep-sea fish,
such as the forkbeard, black scabbardfish, greater silver smelt and
roundnose grenadier have become an attractive catch as trawlers switch
from their regular fishing grounds. The European Commission is
monitoring these Europe's exotic deepwater fish and has set a reduction
in 2009 to range up to 50 percent from this year, followed by cuts of up
to 100 percent in 2010.

2. "...there is something so very
dreadful, so satanic in tormenting those who have never harmed us, and
who cannot defend themselves, who are utterly in our power, who have
weapons neither of offence nor defense, that none but very hardened
persons can endure the thought of it."
~ Cardinal John Henry Newman (1801 - 1890), leader of the Anglican
Oxford Movement, "Father of Vatican II".
3. One Third of the World’s Fish Catch is Used
for What?
One-third of the world's ocean fish catch is ground up and used to
feed pigs, chickens and farm-raised fish. This is a potential problem
for marine ecosystems and a waste of a resource that could directly
nourish humans, since it accounts for 37 percent, or 31.5 million tons,
of all fish taken from the world's oceans each year.

Industrial agriculture is not sustainable. It only causes suffering
to God’s animals, contributes to human diseases and hunger, and to
environmental degradation. It is imperative that humanity transitions
to plant-based diet before it is too late and the harm irreversible.
4. (RSV) Psalm 1:1-2
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor
stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his
delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and
night.
God gave us the free will and the responsibility to choose who to
listen and who to follow, dealing also with the consequences. When we
choose to follow God's ways, we honor our Lord.
5. Advice for Obama on Overfishing
A report presented by US environmental and economic leaders and
scientists urge President elect Barack Obama to end overfishing, and
thus help protect from extinction many fish species that are at the
verse of collapse. The report advised instituting a system known as
catch shares, where the total amount of fish allowed to be taken in a
given fishery is capped and fishermen are given a share of the fishery's
quota, as opposed to the conventional way of trying to limit the number
of fish taken, which is to shorten the length of the fishing season,
which prompts fishermen to get the absolute maximum during whatever time
they are permitted to fish.

Environmental advice for Obama: end overfishing
Although it would be a good measure to set quotas to stop overfishing,
the individual lives of fish are still not taken into account. These
God's creatures should have the same God-given right as any other
creature to live free of exploitation. Moreover, the slow, torturing
death that fish suffer when caught go against Christ's principles of
compassion, mercy and peace.
6. Australia Urges Japan to Stop Whale
Hunt
Japan's annual cull of whales, allegedly for scientific research,
will begin in weeks. About 900 fin and minke whales will be harpooned
experiencing unimaginable pain and suffering. In an attempt to stop the
culling, Australia urged Japan to abandon its yearly whale hunt by
launching its own scientific whaling study in the Southern Ocean to
prove it was not necessary to kill the ocean mammals to study them. The
Australian Environment Minister Peter Garrett said, "Modern-day research
uses genetic and molecular techniques as well as satellite tags,
acoustic methods and aerial surveys rather than grenade-tipped
harpoons."
