1. Comedian Mike King Advocates for Pigs

Comedian Mike King, after breaking into a pig farm with animal activists in New Zealand where pigs were kept in crates, said he was deeply ashamed he took part in promoting the pork industry. He referred to the pork industry as "callous and evil" and in reference to the pigs he saw crated he said "It was like they were screaming for you to help them."

Farmed animals are screaming for help to all humanity. We, the stewards of God's Creation, have the sacred responsibility to take care of all creatures and show them compassion and mercy, thus reflecting God's love in us.

2. Famous Quote

Lisa: "Do we have any food that wasn't brutally slaughtered?" Homer: "Well, I think the veal died of loneliness." ~Matt Groening, The Simpsons

3. McDonalds to Use Cage-Free Eggs in Trial Study

McDonald's announced that they'll be using eggs from cage-free hens in 2011 in their Egg McMuffins and other breakfast offerings as a trial study. Currently McDonald's uses 3 billion eggs annually from battery caged hens and according to animal rights activists McDonalds in the US is doing everything possible not to transition to cage-free eggs as it already has done in Britain, where almost all of the chain's eggs come from free-range chickens and the chain has a commitment to use 100% cage-free birds by 2010.

McDonald's, by not implementing a cage-free regulation, shows no compassion for hens. Once more, profit trumps compassion for God's animals. This is a clear example where the consumer has the power to bring change and alleviate the suffering of hens by not supporting companies that still use eggs in their products.

4. Bible Verse

(RSV) Leviticus 19:18

You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.

Keeping alive grudges and wanting to take revenge poison our hearts, even when our rage is directed to those who harm God’s animals. Jesus teaches us to love and serve one another in obedience to God.

5. Modern Slavery

According to Jim Motavalli, senior writer at E/The Environmental Magazine and blogs for the Mother Nature Network, humanity might adopt a vegetarian diet by force, rather than by choice. He cites the many studies that show that animal agriculture is not sustainable, is negative for human health and causes misery to animals, all of these raising moral and ethical questions. In Motavalli's opinion, perhaps humanity will see animal agriculture the way we look at slavery now: a despicable industry.
