1. 5th Case of Deadly Pig
Virus Confirmed in Ontario, Canada
There has been much concern
among pig farmers in Canada since the 5th case of a deadly and highly
contagious pig virus was confirmed this past week in Ontario. This
virus has already killed millions of piglets in the U.S.

as this one are very likely one of the many consequences of reducing
God’s animals to commodities to be used for food. These poor creatures
are raised in massive numbers, under intense confinement, in filthy
conditions and with much pain and fear. Once again we are reminded
that we reap what we sow
2. Famous Quote
It is certainly
preferable to raise vegetables, and I think, therefore, that
vegetarianism is a commendable departure from the established
barbarous habit. That we can subsist on plant food and perform our
work even to advantage is not a theory, but a well-demonstrated fact.
Many races living almost exclusively on vegetables are of superior
physique and strength. There is no doubt that some plant food, such as
oatmeal, is more economical than meat, and superior to it in regard to
both mechanical and mental performance. [...] In view of these facts
every effort should be made to stop the wanton and cruel slaughter of
animals, which must be destructive to our morals.”
~ Nikola Tesla,
physicist and inventor
3. Turning Pigs into Cannibals
turns out that pig farmers are feeding the intestines of dead piglets
to their mothers or other sows in order to immunize them against the
porcine virus that has ravaged the pig industry. This practice was
exposed thanks to the Humane Society of the United States through an
undercover video shot at Iron Maden Farms in KY.

The practices in which the factory
farming industry engages are simply unbelievable. They go to any
extent to produce cheap meat at the expense of animals and humans,
while trying to hide their practices as much as possible.
Supporting the animal agriculture industry clearly goes against Jesus’
teachings of compassion, mercy and love; and also against our role of
stewards of God’s Creation.
4. Bible Verse

Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your
The apostle Paul wrote that our bodies are temples of the
Holy Spirit and it follows that we should care for our bodies as gifts
from God. The largest organization of food and nutrition professionals
in the United States, the American Dietetic Association, has endorsed
well-planned vegetarian diets. In 2003, the ADA noted, “Vegetarians
have been reported to have lower body mass indices than
nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart
disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower
blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and
prostate and colon cancer.”
5. PCRM Presents Dannon with SICK
Dannon received the SICK (Social Irresponsibility towards
Consumers and Kids) Award for their misleading advertising and other
efforts that push the public and children into choosing unhealthful
foods. SICK Award went to Dannon this year for their 2014 Super Bowl
Oikos Greek Yogurt ad featuring John Stamos, Bob Saget, and Dave
Coulier from the 90s sitcom “Full House”, distorting the benefits of
yogurt and failing to disclose its adverse health consequences. “The
Oikos ad is a nutritional fumble,” says Susan Levin, M.S., R.D.,
C.S.S.D, director of nutrition education for the Physicians Committee.
“Dannon relies on a fictional image of yogurt as a healthful food
product, when yogurt consumption can actually take you out of the game

If our food choices are influenced more by advertising than the
nutritional value of those foods, we tend to follow profit and not
mindful eating. Although it’s sometimes hard to discern how deceiving
commercials can be, it’s always better to follow common sense and to
do a little bit of research before believing blindly in advertising.
