The Royal Society for the Protection of Animals (RSPCA) in Australia is
calling for the practice of "battery sheep" to end. These sheep are raised
under intense confinement in individual pens to protect their wool; and
therefore, deprived of natural grazing behavior and social interaction.
Consequently they show abnormal behaviors such as swaying and chewing wood
and wire enclosures. The ultra-fine wool sells for more than 100 times the
price of regular wool.
Whether God's animals are exploited for their flesh and/or fur, the fact
that they undergo pain and suffering is undeniable. We are called to be
compassionate and merciful to all creatures, and in that way reflect God's
love for all Creation.
