U.S. meat consumption is projected to continue to decline in 2012.
This projection indicates that the average American will consume 12.2%
less meat and poultry in 2012 that they did in 2007. Among the reasons
for this drop are growing exports and higher costs. Of course, the
meat industry also believes that the government has waged a war on
meat protein.

U.S. meat consumption, I believe, is largely due to an increased
awareness of health issues associated with it, as well as the exposure
of victimization of God’s animals in factory farms. Indeed, unless we
extend our circle of compassion to all creatures, we cannot call
ourselves good stewards of God’s Creation or help bring healing and
reconciliation.
