Last year, about 80 percent of all reported antibiotic sales (30
million pounds) were fed to livestock as standard procedure in order
for these animals to survive the conditions in factory farms and to
make them grow faster than nature intends. David A. Kessler,
commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration from 1990 to 1997,
explains that this irresponsible use of antibiotics is the leading
cause of bacterial resistance to antibiotics.

The fact that health and government officials are ignoring the
overuse of antibiotics in God's farmed animals is simply appalling.
We are creating the perfect environment for an epidemic that we
might not be able to stop, unless we wake up to the fact that God's
animals are not commodities to be used and abused, but rather
sentient beings who share the Earth with us.
