1. 25 Life Lessons from Racqui the Flying Squirrel by Daniel K. Berman - Book Review
This short and enjoyable book recalls the enchanting relationship between the author and his wife with a wild squirrel, who braved into their home one day and, after accepting gifts of nuts, became a frequent visitor. For me, the book was not so much about what we can learn from squirrels but about the marvelous attributes of squirrels themselves. Racqui demonstrated the intelligence and sensitivity she needed to attend to her needs and those of her children. In one of many remarkable scenes, Berman scolded Racqui and, to his surprise, she cowered and shook in fear. He quickly addressed her in his usual tone, and she immediately resumed normal interactions with him. Those who are fascinated by the richness of other animals’ lives and who enjoy heartwarming stories about human-nonhuman relationships will enjoy this book.
