1. “Eating Animals” Selected for UNC and Duke Summer Reading Program
"Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer has been selected for summer
reading at UNC and Duke. “I think any student reading this book will
look at the research that the author did and realize that that’s what
they should think about doing for all the big decisions in their lives,”
said Jan Yopp, the UNC dean of summer school and chairwoman of UNC’s
selection committee. "Eating Animals" looks in depth at factory farms
and the ethical and environmental issues surrounding them. It does a
great job at exposing the inherent cruelty and brutality of animal
agriculture in a personable manner. To read the article please search

summer reading
Jonathan Safran Foer exposes the readers to the significant and
unavoidable ethical issues of supporting animal agriculture. It is
indeed one of the best books on the subject that everyone should read.
As stewards of God's Creation we have the responsibility to look into
the consequences of our choices, whether it is convenient or not.
2.
Famous Quote
"Awareness is bad for the meat business. Conscience is bad for
the meat business. Sensitivity to life is bad for the meat business.
DENIAL, however, the meat business finds indispensable."
~ John Robbins, Diet for a New America
3. Ohio Care Board Approves Cruel Amendment
The Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board has approved that veal
producers in the Buckeye State be allowed to continue raising their
calves in stall confinement into 2017 and beyond. The board voted 6-5 in
favor of removing language that would have allowed calves of all ages to
turn around. The amendment effectively allows calves to be kept in
individual stall pens that restrict turning around, up to 10 weeks of
age, after 2017. To read the article please search online for

calves
It is outrageous that farmers continue to abuse God's animals! Unless
consumers take a firm stand and stop supporting the veal industry, a
by-product of the dairy industry, practices like not allowing veal
calves to turn around for weeks will continue; thus, creating
unimaginable suffering for these young animals. Christians are called to
reflect God's love onto all Creation, which includes showing love and
compassion to God's farmed animals.
4. Bible
(RSV) Philippians 2:3-4
Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others
better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own
interests, but also to the interests of others.
We are called to show humility to others and to avoid looking at them
as lesser individuals. Shouldn’t we apply this teaching to all of God's
creatures and not just humans? As stewards of God's Creation, our
behavior toward all creatures should be one of compassion, mercy and
love.
5. MFA’s Nationwide Tour!
Monday, March 7th, the animal advocacy group Mercy for Animals
(MFA) launched an impressive “Farm to Fridge” nationwide road traveling
nearly 12,000 miles to more than 40 cities, exposing the plight of
animals in factory farms, hatcheries, and slaughterhouses. The tour
spotlights a mobile multi-media advocacy center - featuring a
custom-built truck retrofitted with 80" TV screens, speakers and
billboard-sized banners, asking, "How much cruelty can you swallow?" The
signs feature images of calves, hens, and pigs confined on factory
farms, and urges consumers to "Boycott Animal Abuse. Choose Vegetarian."
The tour in every city will culminate with screenings of MFA's
Farm to Fridge documentary. To

Meat Industry Cruelty
How wonderful that MFA is actively exposing the plight of God’s
farmed animals so cruelly abused for profit and taste! It is our hope
that millions of people soften their hearts upon learning the
unimaginable suffering of God’s animals and adopt a compassionate diet.
6. This Week’s Featured Video: Bills Would Ban Undercover Farm
Footage
HLN's Jane Velez-Mitchell reports on the several states that are
trying to criminalize undercover footage taken at factory farms. Jane
Velez-Mitchell exposes the unimaginable cruelty that factory farmed
animals suffer and urges the consumer to oppose measure that would
prevent courageous and compassionate individuals to document the
appalling condition in factory farms and slaughterhouses. To watch the
video please search online for
