1. On Protein and Vegan Diets

Vegan diets can easily supply all the nutrients humans need, if it’s balanced correctly. Ginny Messina, MPH, RD, a registered dietitian and public health nutritionist, explains why legumes and nuts are important foods in vegan diets because they contain all the essential amino acids and healthy fats we need. Ginny Messina and dietitian Jack Norris will have their co-authored book, Vegan for Life, published this summer. To read the article please search online for Vegan Food Guide, Protein and New Book

How important it is that conscientious dietitians and nutritionists like Messina and Norris work tirelessly to inform and educate people that well-balanced plant-based diets are not only complete but very healthy.  A plant-based diet is God’s ideal choice for humans for it was prescribed to us by God at the beginning of time, as the book of Genesis tells us. Vegetarian diets are responsible and compassionate choices that help us bring harmony and healing into God’s Creation.

2. Famous Quote

"What goes around comes around. We must as a species stop the violence that is inherent in our meat habit. This should be of paramount importance for all religious movements and teachers. It is the call of spirituality. If our religions don’t hear this call, we must revitalize them or create new ones that do."

~ Will Tuttle, author of The World Peace Diet

3. Vegan Athlete

Richard Adams, vegetarian athlete and Ironman race competitor, shares how transitioning to a plant-based diet helped him get rid of gastrointestinal problems. He also tells the enormous impact that visiting Farm Sanctuary had on him, especially meeting farmed animals who had been very abused by the meat, egg and dairy industries, and who got a second chance in life thanks to compassionate people. To read the article please search online for Plant, Animals and Iron

More and more athletes are learning that an animal-based diets have no benefits for their health or performance. In fact, they learn that adopting a plant-based diet gives them more energy, endurance and health. Plant-based diets show good stewardship of our bodies, temples of the Holy Spirit.

4. Bible Quote

(RSV) Psalm 104:10-14

"Thou makest springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills,  they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild asses quench their thirst.  By them the birds of the air have their habitation; they sing among the branches. From thy lofty abode thou waterest the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy work.  Thou dost cause the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth,..."

The survival of all creatures depends on the natural world that God created. We are called to be good stewards of it. By exploiting and abusing our bodies, animals and the environment we are only bringing misery to all and showing disobedience to God.

5. Former president of McDonald’s and Oprah to Open a Vegan-Friendly Restaurant Chain

A former president of McDonald's and Oprah are opening a vegan-friendly, high animal welfare restaurant chain. Chicago-based Lyfe plans to open its first restaurant in Palo Alto, CA and within five years, the company is planning as many as 250 restaurants nationally. All the items in the menu will have 600 or fewer calories. The food will not contain any butter, cream or high-fructose corn syrup, and desserts are going to be dairy-free and meat will come from reputable free-range, grass-fed cattle such as Niman Ranch. To read the article please search online for Lyfe Kitchen to enter restaurant mix with healthy eating at its core

The demand for healthier foods and plant-based ones has increased significantly in the last decade. More people want to know where their food comes from and what impact it has on their health, God's animals and the environment. Ultimately, if everyone shows responsibility and mindfulness at the time of choosing food, the world would be a harmonious, loving and peaceful one, as envisioned by the prophet Isaiah.

 6. This Week’s Video: The Vegan Show with Biz Stone

Martha Stewart, America’s domestic icon, devoted an entire hour-long episode of “The Martha Stewart Show” to veganism. With high profile personalities like Kathy Freston ("Veganist" author), Gene Baur (Farm Sanctuary President) and Twitter cofounder Biz Stone, the audience and viewers learned about the many benefits of adopting a plant-based diet. To watch an excerpt of the show featuring Gene Baur exposing the inherent cruelty of factory farming, please search online for The Vegan Show With Biz Stone.
