More on horse-slaughter issue
After a federal court decision that upheld a Texas ban on horse meat
was issued recently, the 2 processing plants in Texas claimed to have
stopped operations. However, recent reports seem to indicate that
production at Beltex plant would probably be reduced temporarily as the
plant processes for pet food and zoo food only.
These processing plants are reviewing their options, including moving
to other states or countries, and expanding the types of meat they
process to compensate for the loss. In addition to processing plants,
American Airlines and Delta Air Lines said on Thursday that they had
suspended transport of horse meat to overseas markets.
