Horse for dinner
A recent article on TIME magazine
on-line revealed the ethical relativism of humans, US residents in
this case.
In this country, as Joel Stein
notes, horses are not looked upon as food unlike the rest of farm
animals. After race horse Barbaro’s injury and death, which drew
great attention, more people are beginning to “see” that there
should be no difference in the treatment of a cow or a horse.
The writer honestly accepts the
inconsistency of ethical behavior, or lack thereof, toward different
animals. He’s eaten horse meat and plans to continue, but as he
states, “… until I
decide to stop my less-than-noble practice of eating other animals,
I've got little choice but to order up some more horse.”

Mr. Stein is right in
that eating animals is a “less-than-noble practice” that people keep
denying, most out of convenience. Until we treat all creatures with
reverence and compassion, we cannot claim to love God’s Creation.
