Supermarket chains urge the UN to curb tuna catch
Several of the major supermarket chains in Europe including Germany's
Metro, France's Auchan, Dutch Albert Heijn, and Asda, Wal-Mart's British
unit, have signed a letter calling for a drastic reduction in EU tuna
quotas. These retailers are alarmed by the state of the tuna population
and agree that the quota set last November by the International
Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) was far too
high.

It’s great news to learn that businesses are waking up and raising
awareness on the negative consequences of the fishing industry.
Hopefully, consumers will realize that the transition to a plant-based
diet is imperative if we want to stop the fishing industry from
depleting the oceans.
