Hearing to Review Animal Concerns in Agriculture
Members of the AVMA and other
organizations attended a meeting of the House of Representatives
Committee on Agriculture in May to review the welfare of animals in
agriculture.

Pork Producers Council, who said that America's pork producers raise
their pigs humanely out of moral obligation and to protect their
livelihood. Others, such as Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane
Society of the United States, cited examples of widespread animal
abuse as in the case of gestation stalls for pregnant sows and
nonambulatory animals in the food supply.
