Kids Exposed to the Slaughter of Farmed Animals
Tribune reporter Monica Eng took her 7 year-old daughter, Miranda, to
Faith Farm in Bonfield, Ill in order to witness the slaughtering of a
pig. Monica said she wanted her daughter to appreciate where food comes
from. The slaughtering, which involved a knock bolt that pierced the
pig's skull followed by the slicing of the pig's neck while the pig's
body was twitching was almost too much for the little girl who wept into
her hands. Miranda later said that it's "important for kids to
understand that meat doesn't grow from the ground or from holes at the
store."
