Dannon received the SICK
(Social Irresponsibility towards Consumers and Kids) Award for their
misleading advertising and other efforts that push the public and
children into choosing unhealthful foods. SICK Award went to Dannon
this year for their 2014 Super Bowl Oikos Greek Yogurt ad featuring
John Stamos, Bob Saget, and Dave Coulier from the 90s sitcom “Full
House”, distorting the benefits of yogurt and failing to disclose
its adverse health consequences. “The Oikos ad is a nutritional
fumble,” says Susan Levin, M.S., R.D., C.S.S.D, director of
nutrition education for the Physicians Committee. “Dannon relies on
a fictional image of yogurt as a healthful food product, when yogurt
consumption can actually take you out of the game completely.”

If our food choices are influenced more by advertising than the
nutritional value of those foods, we tend to follow profit and not
mindful eating. Although it’s sometimes hard to discern how
deceiving commercials can be, it’s always better to follow common
sense and to do a little bit of research before believing blindly in
advertising.
